KOTA KINABALU, 26 March 2013: In recognition of the positive growth amongst darters in Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia’s most preferred beer brand, Carlsberg is returning with the undisputed Carlsberg Darts Championship.

This 2013 edition will once more partner with the established Asia Dart Magazine and offering RM30,000 worth of cash prizes for winners. This year will see more than 350 teams battling at 16 venues, and including the Grand Finale which is to be held on 28-30 June at Cherry Club, Kota Kinabalu.

Mr Teoh Nar Teik, Regional Sales Manager of East Malaysia shared, “With the positive responds by fellow East Malaysians over these two years, we are pleased to continue providing talented Malaysian darters a chance to excel as top darters of the country. Last year, a total of 72 teams participated in Sabah and Sarawak at the Grand Finale with Team Izing from Papar, Kota Kinabalu emerging as the champion. With that victory, they advance automatically for the Grand Finale this year."

With 11 qualifying round venues in Sabah and five in Sarawak, the Carlsberg Darts Championship will be expecting darters from East Malaysia to battle at their best to qualify for the Grand Finale. The qualifying rounds took place on 23-24 April at Venetian Club, Kota Kinabalu while the remaining qualifying rounds are scheduled from 6 April – 23 June.

Clairines Joseph @ Colin from Team Izing shared their excitement as the defending champions for 2013, “We are looking forward to defend our title this year and it will be a tougher challenge from the participating darters this year. We would also like to thank Carlsberg and Asia Dart Magazine for organizing this dart championship as it is a popular sport here. I am glad that a prestigious brand like Carlsberg is playing a role in developing the sports here.
