Change of Chairman - Datuk Toh succeeds Dato' Lim

Datuk Toh succeeds Dato’ Lim as Chairman of Carlsberg Malaysia Group

Shah Alam, 30th March 2018 – Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad (The Group), a dynamic brewer with operations in Malaysia and Singapore, an associate company in Sri Lanka as well as regional presence via exports to Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong, is pleased to announce the appointment of Datuk Toh Ah Wah as Chairman of the Group succeeding Dato’ Lim Say Chong, who wished to step down as Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director upon the conclusion of the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 12 April 2018. Following the appointment, Datuk Toh will also take on the position of Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and Chairman of the Nomination Committee from Dato’ Lim.

The Board of Directors, management and employees of the Group would like to convey their sincere appreciation and thank you to Dato’ Lim for his significant contributions over the past 15 years, 13 years of which as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the Group. Under his Chairmanship, the Group has grown from a beer company active mainly in the domestic market with a few key portfolio brands to a brewer with regional footprints offering a portfolio of international premium beers, stouts, cider and craft brews.

Commenting on his leaving the Group after 15 years, Dato’ Lim said: “It has been a privilege for me to be part of the transformation journey of the Group, especially the product innovations launched in the recent years namely Carlsberg Smooth Draught, Somersby cider, Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc and Connors’ Stout Porter. I am pleased that it is to Datuk Toh that I am handing over the chairmanship: he has vast experience and a sound understanding of consumer businesses, not only in Malaysia but also in the Asia Pacific region. This makes him the ideal candidate to bring the Group to greater success”.

The appointment of Datuk Toh, who joined the Board of the Group on 17 May 2017 as Independent Non-Executive Director, was in line with the succession plan that has been put in place. The Group is delighted that he has accepted the role to lead our drive to strengthen our position as a successful, professional and attractive brewer in markets we operate in.

“Throughout my 9 months on the Board, I admired the strength of the Group’s businesses, its highly professional and dedicated employee and the potentials of our portfolio of quality beers, stouts and cider. I strongly support the Group’s purpose of Brewing for a better today and tomorrow and endorsed our corporate strategy SAIL’22 and sustainability priorities.  I look forward to seeing the Group continuing its growth journey.
