Carlsberg Malaysia Advances Forest Biodiversity Conservation via RM600,000 Partnership with Malaysia Forest Fund

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 May 2026 – Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad (“the Company”) today announced a RM600,000 forest biodiversity partnership with the Malaysia Forest Fund (MFF), marking its inaugural venture into forest conservation as part of its refreshed ESG programme, Brewing Tomorrow.

The symbolic partnership ceremony, held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Denmark to Malaysia in conjunction with the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026, underscores Carlsberg Malaysia’s commitment to supporting nature-based solutions aligned with national priorities under the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026–2030).

Managing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia, Stefano Clini, said the initiative reflects the Company’s focus on safeguarding ecosystems that are fundamental to both environmental resilience and its operations. “Water is the main ingredient in every beer we brew, and its quality and availability depend directly on healthy forest ecosystems. That is why protecting forests and biodiversity is critical — not only for environmental resilience, but for communities and businesses alike,” he said.

“Through this partnership with the Malaysia Forest Fund, we are sponsoring RM600,000 in forest biodiversity conservation. We believe that Protecting Nature is a shared responsibility, and partnerships like this marks the beginning of long‑term collaboration and accountability, in line with our purpose of Brewing for a Better Today & Tomorrow,” he added.

The collaboration establishes a dedicated funding pool managed by MFF, with environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) invited to apply for grants to implement forest biodiversity conservation projects across Malaysia. The initiative aims to protect and restore critical ecosystems, including forest carbon stocks, water catchment areas and local biodiversity, while supporting local communities that depend on these natural resources.

As a founding member of the Green Transition Alliance (GTA), a flagship initiative led by the Embassy of Denmark in Malaysia, Carlsberg Malaysia supports collective action to advance biodiversity and environmental stewardship through public-private partnerships. The Alliance aims to bring together governments, businesses and partners to accelerate Malaysia’s green transition, translating shared ambitions into meaningful on-the-ground impact.

His Excellency Mr. Rafael Daerr, Ambassador of the European Union to Malaysia, underscored the importance of forest ecosystems in supporting climate resilience and sustainable development. “Forests serve as vital carbon sinks while underpinning biodiversity and climate resilience. Strengthening ecosystem protection is increasingly relevant as sustainability considerations become more integrated into economic and trade frameworks,” he said.

During the event, Pearl Lai, Carlsberg Malaysia’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director presented the Company’s Brewing Tomorrow ESG programme, outlining its four strategic pillars: Cutting Carbon, Protecting Nature, Inspiring Choice and Empowering People, and how biodiversity conservation fits within its Protecting Nature agenda.

At the same event, MFF introduced the Forest Conservation Certificate mechanism and extended an open call for environmental NGOs to apply for the RM600,000 funding through MFF.

Forest biodiversity conservation plays a critical role in safeguarding ecosystem health, protecting water resources, and supporting communities. Through this partnership, Carlsberg Malaysia aims to contribute to national biodiversity priorities while strengthening the long-term sustainability and resilience of its operations.
