To drive the management accounting team to ensure all internal and statutory financial reporting requirements are met timely and accurately through continuous improvement in work processes and systems thereby leading to quality reporting to assist management in planning, controlling and decision-making.

Responsibilities:

Budget

  1. This role has no budgetary accountabilities.

Financial Closing & Reporting 

  1. Ensure accuracy, completeness and timely submission of financial reports and analyses to Group and local Management.
    a. Manage timely monthly closing and reporting
    b. Prepare Group consolidation journals.  Review monthly Group financial statements to ascertain reasonableness and accuracy.
    c. Provide periodic and regular commentary on financial and operational performance.
  2. Provide financial analyses, advice and opinions for assessment of risks, efficiency and on financial policies or policy decisions impacting the financial wellbeing of the Company and its subsidiaries.
    a. Prepare and assess benchmarks to measure the performance of company operations
    b. Calculate and report financial and operating metrics
    c. Identify financial trends and opportunities for improvement
    d. Perform financial modelling as needed (eg impairment testing)
    e. Analyse, manage and monitor risk and enforce compliance
  3. Responsible for timely, complete and accurate financial reporting.
    a. Coordinate and ensure the preparation of all financial reports/accounts including but not limited to reconciliations, financial statements, statements of comprehensive income, statements of financial position, cash flow statements, management reports, variances analysis, HFM reporting, etc
    b. Coordinate the preparation of statutory accounts, quarterly Bursa announcements and annual reports.

Business advisory on HR / payroll cost related matter

  1. Provide support to HR on annual budget exercise and quarterly estimates focusing on human resource cost planning. 
  2. Review analysis of financial and operational performance on people related cost, prepared by Payroll Accountant. 
  3. Identify and recommend process efficiencies and improvement to payroll accounting systems and procedures.

Internal Controls

  1. Implement internal controls over the Company and its subsidiaries’ accounting and financial procedures 
    a. Assess internal controls 
    b. Actively review and recommend improvement on finance/accounting policies and guidelines
    c. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
    d. Review all financial and accounting reports
  2. Ensure all accounting allocations and transactions are appropriately made and documented.
    a. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
    b. Establish and maintain a comprehensive master file and database:
    i. Chart of accounts is properly maintained and adhered to
    ii. An orderly and comprehensive filing and records tracking system is maintained.

  3. Coordinate and conduct verification to ensure compliance to internal control frameworks. Ensure timely submission of Control Framework over Financial Reporting “CFFR” assessment

Compliance

  1. Coordinate the provision of information to regulatory authorities, internal and external auditors, and/or any parties authorised to examine the accounting records.
    a. Point of contact for annual external audit
    b. Ensure all Company and its subsidiaries’ accounting records are organised and readily available for audit/inspection.
  2. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
  3.  Comply with Bursa Malaysia disclosure and reporting requirements

People

  1. Hire, manage and develop team in all aspects of finance and accounting towards a high performing team.

Others

  1. Identify and drive accounting and finance process efficiency and improvements.
  2. Provide technical and other support as needed.
  3. Assume responsibility for any ad-hoc tasks as directed.
  4. Collaborate with other internal and external resources as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • A university degree/professional qualification in Accounting or Finance
  • Membership with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) or any other professional qualification such as ACCA or its equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years accounting experience in a progressively growing capacity
  • Good working knowledge of IFRS and strong in Group financial consolidation
  • Excellent command of written and verbal English
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and procedures, international financial reporting standards & local statutory reporting requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of all the accounting and finance functions
  • Understanding of the regulations and reporting requirements of a public listed company
  • Good understanding and knowledge of SAP processes
  • Proficient in spreadsheet designs for analysis
  • Excellent communications skills. Able to relay complex information and analyses in a precise and clear way
  • Familiar with strategy, governance, compliance and performance dynamics
  • Ability to network and communicate with employees of all levels across all functions
  • High level of discretion
  • Analytical and has a keen eye for details
  • Strong problem-solving skills
